Membership of the Company

Ayr Gaiety Partnership Ltd is a company limited by guarantee. The members of the company are ultimately in charge of the company. Unlike a company limited by shares, members do not gain anything financial from their membership.

Each year the members fill any vacancies on the board, by voting at the Annual General Meeting (AGM). The board meets regularly to take the main decisions to enable the company to achieve its goals – to reopen and run the Gaiety as a performing arts resource for the whole community.

Ayr Gaiety Partnership is also a registered charity. So all board members are volunteers and no director or member can take part in any decision that might benefit them personally. As an incorporated company and registered charity, Ayr Gaiety Partnership Ltd must lodge formal accounts and information each year that anyone can ask to see.

Currently Company Membership is free. In the future new members may be asked to pay a one-off Membership Fee. Importantly, every member also guarantees to pay out up to £1 (one pound) to meet company debts if the company closes down (that’s what the ‘guarantee’ is in the ‘company limited by guarantee’).

As a member you’ll also find out what is happening at the Gaiety– and if you want you’ll have an opportunity to become involved as a volunteer in running the theatre and in fund raising.
